Auckland Lacrosse Association (ALA) is the governing body for mens and women's lacrosse in Auckland. We administer school and club lacrosse leagues, select representative teams and provide player, coach and officiating development opportunites for women's lacrosse in Auckland.
In 2010 the men setup the Northern Region Lacrosse Association and in 2014 the Auckland Lacrosse Association was created for the women. Now the two have merged and the ALA governs both women and men's lacrosse in the Auckland region. As such we are affiliated to the New Zealand Lacrosse Association that govern the sport for the whole country.
Lacrosse is a fast and unique sport combining elements of basketball, ice hockey and field hockey. The full format version of lacrosse features teams of 10 per side and a new format called Sixes features teams of 6 per side. World Lacrosse (the international governing body of lacrosse) is working hard for lacrosse to be included in the 2028 and/or 2032 Olympics playing the Sixes format.
Womens lacrosse is growing in Auckland with over 500 participants at intermediate and primary level, 350 participants at high school level and over 150 participants at club level. Many of our members have gone on to represent New Zealand in U19 and women's teams, and as international umpires at World Lacrosse events.
